Squarespace to Shopify, including the parts Squarespace won't export
Squarespace's site export only includes layout pages and one blog, and its product CSV leaves out featured images, alt text, variant images and reviews. Product URLs follow /{store-page}/p/{slug}. We fill the export gaps from the live site, rebuild the store on Horizon and redirect every old URL. Most Squarespace sellers fit Off the Rack at $4,900 in 10 business days.
The two Squarespace exports, and what each leaves behind
The site export is a WordPress-format XML file. It includes layout pages, gallery pages and one blog page with its posts and up to 1,000 comments per post. It doesn't include store pages, product blocks, video or audio blocks, page-specific headers and footers, drafts, style settings or custom CSS, and only one blog makes it out1.
The product export is a CSV of up to 10,000 physical and service products. It leaves out additional product information, customer reviews, featured images, alt text and variant images2.
So for a Squarespace move we read both files, then crawl your live product pages to recover images, alt text and the "additional info" content. A second or third blog is pulled from its RSS feed.

| Additional product info | Recovered from the live site | Becomes a metafield content block in Horizon. |
| Digital products | Rebuilt by hand | Files re-uploaded to a digital downloads app. |
| Product reviews | Rebuilt | Not exported; moved by hand into the review app where the volume justifies it. |
| Customers | Moves by tool | From the customer list export; activation invites, no passwords. |
| Orders | Moves by tool | From the orders CSV, as historical orders. |
| Primary blog and comments | Moves by tool | From the XML export. |
| Second and later blogs | Moves from RSS | The site export includes only one blog. |

| URL mappings (existing redirects) | Moves by hand | Copied from Settings and merged into the new map. |
Squarespace URL structure and the matching redirects
Squarespace nests products under the store page's slug, so a store at /shop has products at /shop/p/{slug}. If you've renamed the store page over the years, both old and new paths may still have backlinks. We include both in the Shopify redirect import3.
| Squarespace URL | Shopify URL | Covers |
|---|---|---|
/{store-page}/p/{slug} | /products/{handle} | Every product page. |
/{store-page}?category={name} | /collections/{handle} | Older category filter links; Shopify redirects match on the path, so we test these one by one. |
/{store-page} | /collections/all | The store page itself. |
/{blog-page}/{post-slug} | /blogs/news/{handle} | Blog posts; dated paths (/{blog}/{yyyy}/{m}/{d}/{slug}) on older sites. |
/{blog-page}/tag/{tag} | /blogs/news/tagged/{tag} | Blog tag and category archives. |
/{page-slug} | /pages/{handle} | Layout pages. |
Rebuilding the design you liked
Squarespace sites tend to be visual: big image sections, index pages and galleries. Style settings and custom CSS don't export, so we rebuild the look in Horizon rather than port it. In practice that means matching your fonts, colours and image ratios in Horizon's theme settings, and rebuilding index-page layouts as Horizon sections. On a Tailored Move you approve that rebuild in a live preview on day 3, before the remaining pages are built.
Squarespace extras that need a new home
- Scheduling (Acuity): keep Acuity and link to it, or switch to a Shopify booking app.
- Member Areas: rebuild as customer-account content or a gated page app.
- Email Campaigns: export the subscriber list, then import it into Shopify Email or Klaviyo with consent status kept.
- Squarespace Payments or Stripe: Shopify Payments replaces both; there is no transaction history to move.
- Domain: if Squarespace is your registrar, we point DNS at launch, and you can transfer the registration later.
Where Squarespace moves slow down
Duplicate product slugs across store pages
Two store pages can each hold a product with the same slug. Shopify handles must be unique, so one gets a suffix and its own redirect.
Variant images
Because the CSV drops them, variant-to-image matching is rebuilt from the live page. We spot-check every product with more than one image.
Trial sites can't export
Squarespace won't export content from a trial site, so the site has to be on a paid plan until the export is done.
