BigCommerce to Shopify, without losing modifiers, price lists or rankings

In short

BigCommerce product and category URLs live at the root of the domain, modifiers don't create variants, and B2B price lists don't move with any migration tool. Those three things decide a BigCommerce move. BigCommerce's June 1, 2026 plan change also added sales caps and a fee on outside payment providers, which is why many stores are pricing the switch now.

Why BigCommerce stores are re-pricing in 2026

On June 1, 2026 BigCommerce renamed its plans (Standard became Core, Plus became Growth, Pro became Scale) and changed what triggers an upgrade1. The list prices stayed at $39, $105 and $399 a month, but:

  • Core now auto-upgrades above $30K trailing-12-month GMV (it was $50K), and Growth above $100K (it was $180K).
  • Scale includes $33,333 of GMV a month, then charges 0.9% on everything above it.
  • An Open Payment Provider fee of 2.0%, 1.0% or 0.6% (Core, Growth, Scale) applies when you use a payment provider BigCommerce doesn't embed.

None of that makes Shopify automatically cheaper. It does mean the BigCommerce bill now moves with revenue, so it's worth running both numbers. Our Shopify vs BigCommerce comparison has the side-by-side table.

BigCommerce URLs share one namespace, so the map comes from your data

With BigCommerce's default "SEO optimized (short)" setting, products, categories and web pages all sit at /{slug}/. A pattern can't tell a product from a category, so we pull every object's stored URL from the API and map them one by one into Shopify's URL redirects2.

Object by object: BigCommerce data on Shopify

Modifiers and price lists are where BigCommerce and Shopify differ most. Everything else is a field mapping.

Options, modifiers and the 2,048-variant limit

BigCommerce splits product choices into variant options, which create SKUs, and modifiers, which don't: text fields, checkboxes, date pickers, file uploads and "pick list" add-ons. Shopify has no modifier object. Variant options map to Shopify options (up to three per product, 2,048 variants3). Modifiers become line item properties in the Horizon product form, and price-adjusting modifiers need an options app or a bundle so the cart total stays right.

We list every modifier with a price adjustment on day 1, because that decides whether you need an app at all.

Coming from B2B Edition or price lists

Customer groups and price lists are the part no migration tool imports for you. On Shopify they become companies, locations and catalogs. Matrixify imports companies and assigns catalogs to locations4, and we build the catalogs and their prices from your BigCommerce price list export.

One planning point: Shopify's Basic, Grow and Advanced plans allow 3 active B2B catalogs, shared across B2B markets. Plus has no cap5. If you run eight price lists today, we fold them into three with volume breaks and quantity rules, or you move on Plus. If you use B2B Edition's quotes or shopping-list approvals, read Shopify B2B vs BigCommerce B2B Edition first. Shopify has no native quote object.

BigCommerce gotchas we plan around

Suffixed duplicate slugs

Because everything shares the root, BigCommerce often gives a category and a product with the same name URLs like /oak-table/ and /oak-table-1/. Shopify keeps products and collections under separate prefixes, so both get the clean handle oak-table, and each old URL gets its own redirect.

Hidden products still linked

Products set to invisible on BigCommerce often still sit in old blog links. We redirect them to the closest live collection instead of letting them 404.

Option values with images

BigCommerce swatch images live on the option value. They're re-attached as variant images or swatches in the import file.

Stencil theme content

Banners and widgets placed with Page Builder don't export. We rebuild them in Horizon from screenshots.

The Move we'd quote

A BigCommerce store on a stock Cornerstone theme with simple options fits Off the Rack ($4,900, 10 business days). Stores with modifiers, custom fields shown on the product page, reviews and an email platform fit Tailored ($8,900, 15 business days). Add a Counter Switchover (+$5,500) if price lists or customer groups carry wholesale pricing.
