Is Shopify good for B2B? Yes for most, with clear limits
Since April 2, 2026, Shopify's native B2B runs on Basic, Grow and Advanced, not just Plus. Companies, three wholesale catalogs, quantity rules, Net 7 to 90 terms, vaulted cards and draft-order invoicing are all included. It's a strong fit for brands with a few hundred trade accounts that reorder known products. It's a weak fit if you need formal quotes, approval workflows, credit limits or more than three price lists without paying for Plus.
Who it suits and who it doesn't
A good fit
- Brands selling to shops, salons, cafés or contractors at 2 to 3 price levels
- Wholesale that's a second channel next to retail on one store
- Buyers who reorder known SKUs and pay on terms or by card
A poor fit
- Buyers whose procurement needs quote negotiation and approval chains
- Price lists per customer by the hundreds (Plus or an app)
- Orders above 500 line items, or businesses that need credit limits enforced at checkout

The limits that don't move with plan
Some constraints apply on every plan, Plus included. B2B checkout doesn't work with accelerated checkouts like Shop Pay, local delivery, pickup points, tipping, subscriptions or legacy customer accounts4. Orders are capped at 500 line items. There's no native quote object and no credit limit: terms are set per location and nothing stops a buyer who's over a limit you track elsewhere. Pre-orders aren't supported in B2B checkout5.
Native first, apps for the gaps
Our default is to set up native B2B and add an app only for a named gap: a quote workflow, a grid order form, per-customer pricing beyond three catalogs. The wholesale app comparisons cover the main options with October 2026 pricing. If you already run one, the Counter Switchover moves you to native and tells you when keeping the app is right.
Check your own case
The B2B plan fit check asks six questions and tells you which Shopify plan covers your wholesale setup, or whether you need Plus or an app.
Questions people ask
Do I need Shopify Plus for wholesale in 2026?
Not for most stores. Since April 2, 2026, B2B is available on Basic, Grow and Advanced, with three catalogs. Plus adds unlimited catalogs, direct company assignment, deposits and partial payments.
Can wholesale and retail run on the same Shopify store?
Yes. B2B customers log in and see their catalog prices and terms. On Advanced and Plus, the storefront and checkout can also look different for B2B buyers.
Does Shopify B2B support quotes?
Not natively. Draft orders sent as invoices cover simple cases; a quote app covers formal quoting.
